My hate for cliffhangers is a visceral, living beast. And this book, cute and funny which made me flip one page after another ended in a flipping cliffhanger!Okay, rant over, let me talk about the rest of the book. I loved the banter, the way the heroine, Keri Ann, tended to be bitchy when nervous. Jack, on the other hand, was not as lovely. He had his moments and they were really good moments. But, and this is a big but, he had a weak core - his character, what made him a person - and that was nearly unforgivable.
This book really broke some hardcore romance book rules. HEA or HFN. BIG rule - broken. No cheating - BIG rule broken (kinda). Look, I'm a masochist so I'm going to buy the next book right this minute and read it. Why? Because this was half a story. Maybe, just maybe I would have rated this different if it didn't do so many things which made me, as the reader, angry.
As an aside from the plot, the writing is very, very good and does an excellent job of imagery and evoking emotion (obviously as my reaction shows).

Eversea The Butler Cove Series Book 1 edition by Natasha Boyd Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
As other reviewers have mentioned, this is an incomplete book. You have to buy the next book in order to find out what happens. Sometimes that works for me, but it didn't with this book. It was poorly written. I spent half the time rolling my eyes at the dialogue and plot lines or skipping over inane dialogue between characters. I've never read a book where the characters, who are adults, avoid having sex for the first time over mundane reasons. I'm throwing up my hands and giving up on Butler Cove forever.
An orphaned, small-town, southern girl, held hostage by responsibility and self-doubt.
A Hollywood A-list mega-star, on the run from his latest scandal and with everything to lose.
A great premise for a romance book.
I liked the idea of a movie star falling for a regular, normal woman ( though I wouldn’t mind reading books where the women are the ones with great wealth and power).
The differences between Keri Ann and Jack are apparent from the start and I was looking forward to seeing how their story unfolds.
I liked Keri Ann's cool in dealing with Jack, being a fan of the star but still seeing the real man beneath.
I liked the insight in to celebrity life many celebrity couples are together as a PR stunt and nothing more.
The differences between Jack and Keri Ann, the contract Jack signed that binds him to a shame of a relationship with a woman he has no feelings for. That and many more kept me reading.
I liked the friendship they developed that grew into something more.
The one thing that bothered me was the cliffhanger ending. I do believe the story could have been told in one (longer) book.
This book wasn't bad...it was far from perfect but a solid 4 star read. I liked both characters but wish the h had more of a backbone. She was VERY wishy washy & she seemed too juvenile for her age. Like more of a 16 year old than 22/23... Jack..who is he? Very little true back story of his life prior to meeting Keri Ann. What bothers me more than anything though
is that this ended on a CLIFFHANGER...come on! I'm getting SO sick of this. You want this to be a series ok BUT BE UP FRONT ABOUT IT...there is NO mention that this book is NOT a stand alone. I feel deceived and that's what dropped my review from 4 to 3 stars...also no mention of when to expect the next book...
Very disappointed and annoyed by this book. The main character was super annoying and I started skimming to finish it. However, you do not get a happy ending. You do get a cliff hanger. I have absolutely no desire to buy the next book. Absolutely a waste of time.
I read Ms Boyd's Accidental Tryst and loved it but I am half way through this novel and it's been a struggle to get that far. I'm not going to waste any more time on it.
I don't see this advertised as YA but that is how it reads. I give Ms Boyd credit for capturing the obsessiveness of a young woman's first love - I still vaguely remember being like that myself at 22 but for a much older reader this is just boring, eye rolling stuff. I might have given this more stars on the basis that it is reasonably well written and I'm just the wrong age demographic for it yet I find I can't because this doesn't meet the central premise of a romance - an enduring connection between h & H which a reader can believe in. The lack of real development of why the MC's fall for each other makes this quite weak. The heroine seems to largely be star struck and the hero's motivation appears to be that the heroine is beautiful, conveniently there at a low point in his life and a normal girl. That's just not enough motivation on either side to sustain a romance.
So my advice would be if you are well over 30 this story may not gel for you.
